Anyone in good health, reasonably fit and comfortable in the water can earn the PADI Open Water Certification. The minimum age requirement is 15 years old; for those under 15 there is the PADI Jr. Open Water Diver Certification available.
The PADI Open Water Course is separated into 3 components; 1) theory, 2) confined water training and 3) open water dives.
Theory: Learn the fundamentals of scuba diving by watching the Open Water Course DVD, completing the knowledge development sessions and passing the Open Water Course Exam.
Confined Water Training: There are 5 sessions in the swimming pool. Your Instructor will introduce you to diving equipment and demonstrate the skills and techniques necessary to become proficient in the water. Once you have mastered the skills in the pool you will take your newfound knowledge and apply it in the ocean.
Open Water Dives: There are 4 open water dives required for certification as a PADI Open Water Diver. During the 4 dives you will demonstrate your diving skills to your instructor, but don’t worry it’s not all skill work; afterwards your Instructor will take you on a guided tour of some of the best diving that Fiji has to offer.
Upon successful completion of all 3 components of the course, you will have earned the certification of PADI Open Water Diver; valid worldwide, this will allow you to book dive slots, rent equipment or purchase air fills.
